This sculpture by Stephen Farley is the ultimate anti-album. Impossible to play, removed of all function, Farley has created a 24” LP and sleeve, made using acrylic, resin, aluminium and copper. Born out of a compulsion to soundtrack himself towards artistic motivation, Farley has released this anti-album under the name ‘DJ Dogtags’ titled ‘Metalmix’, a humorous nod to its metallic structure. Working on an aluminium sleeve, Farley has encapsulated the metal with layers upon layers of his signature ‘spurt’ motif with clear resin. These 'spurts' are a metaphor for liquid impact, and are a recurring motif throughout Farley's oeuvre. Light refractions create shimmering hues of blue and green, creating a wet-look and a satisfying tactility which makes it almost impossible not to touch. The 24" vinyl is made from tediously engraved acrylic - if only there was a record player big enough to play it? “Music is probably the biggest influence on what comes out of me visually, because it’s probably my first interaction with an art form” Farley is renowned for the pop-culture and musical references within his work - this piece is no exception. During Farley's youth, the 12" remix was a groundbreaking development for music, and opened many doors for him as an artist. Now a faded format, 'Metalmix' is a commemoration of the 12" remix, as well as his sheer love for music. Whether stand-alone sculptures or statement wall pieces, Farley’s works are exciting and tactile, adopting the shapes of a multitude of synthetic and organic forms. Through his attention to detail, his intuitive approach and a wide range of materials, Farley has developed his own unique visual language, which is imbued with a myriad of narratives. Informed by years of experimentation and development, Farley’s works would be a valuable asset for any contemporary art collection.

Farley's oeuvre is multifaceted and tactile - whether a wall piece or a stand-alone sculpture - they're almost impossible not to touch, and demand to be seen in the flesh.
