Part of Karenina Fabrizzi's brand new series of works, 'Other Dimensional Self', this painting represents a breakthrough of self discovery - in realising our power, and the layers within us which make us human. A regal series of works, Fabrizzi has experimented rigorously to find a balance of refined detail and softness, which makes her works immediately pleasing to the eye. One part of a pair, two doll-like figures perch playfully, presented head to head. Amongst hues of dusty pinks, grey, and gold, they are adorned in abstracted garments, which reveal their true complex layers beneath the surface. Painted on antique linen, Fabrizzi incorporates the textures and aged appearance of her surfaces into her work - they contribute to this antique-doll aesthetic which is prominent in many of her works - its the contemporary twists that Fabrizzi applies that make her works so distinctive. Fabrizzi is fascinated by the body as a container for our cells, thoughts, emotions and experiences. Her works seek to explore these layers within us, to encourage us to accept these layers, flaws, imperfections which make us who we are. “We are atoms and cells, and everything is moving all the time – like floating in space” “We are organic, and we are always evolving, and making changes in our lives, minds and bodies” Fabrizzi's works are totally thought provoking and captivating, and encourage us to think about our own true needs and desires, to understand our complex layers as humans. Details of gold leaf remind us of our value, whilst also adding subtle highlights to the overall composition, drawing the eye in. Fabrizzi takes a very fluid and intuitive approach to working, which is evident in the final product of her works - the various textures, dripping and fragmented aspects give a sense of movement throughout the works, as though they are constantly changing and evolving, in the same way we are. Many of Fabrizzi's previous works are focused around the concept of masking our true selves; these works display a turning point within her work. Here the masks are removed, exposing and embracing the flaws and fluctuations of the human condition. Fabrizzi's works encourage us to be brave - they speak to us, whilst also allowing us to apply our own meanings and narratives. They push us to live in the present, and to explore our true needs and desires. Full of texture, light, and depth, Karenina Fabrizzi's works demand to be experienced in the flesh. Dark yet delicate, with an organic palette that would compliment any space, any piece from this series would make a valuable investment, and a stunning addition to any contemporary art collection, business space or home.
